SNOWDONIA SURVIVAL SCHOOL

UK SURVIVAL COURSES: Survival Course (2 days - Weekend)

A basic introductory weekend in being outdoors and keeping safe.

Meet up on Friday night and have a drink, then a brief navigation tuition session for an hour before being taken into the forest and asked to navigate to your base camp for the night. Once there, tent accommodation will be provided.

On Saturday morning your tuition  starts for real when you will spend time constructing different types of Bivi shelters. Then you will  learn how to forage for food and find safe water.

Saturday afternoon will be spent learning the arts of Escape & Evasion and Camouflage & Concealment   In the evening you will get a chance to practice some of your new skills in a survival scenario before spending the night in your constructed shelters.

More fun  tests of your abilities follow on  Sunday morning before a buffet lunch back at the pub. Course normally finishes about 3PM. Book Now >>>

UK SURVIVAL COURSES: Advanced Survival Course (5 days)

So you have seen it on TV and think it’s easy!

Think again!

This course simulates true survival conditions with minimal kit. The Instructor was head Special Forces survival instructor for over 12 years but keeps his name out of the books and papers.

You will be given a survival tin containing basic items and allowed a sleeping bag for emergency use. You will then have to search the surrounding area for useful items to make life more comfortable. You will have to construct a shelter, find food and perhaps set traps in the hope of catching lunch.

Each day you will be visited by a Doctor who will check your condition to ensure you are still fit enough to continue. Make no mistake, it’s a hard, dirty and cold course where you will be hungry 23 ½ hours a day. It’s almost impossible to keep yourself alive for any length of time just living off the land.

This course is only available from the end of August to the end of September when there are enough wild foods to make yourself a wilderness meal once in a while.

If things get really bad then we may just throw you the odd scrap of food so you have something to flavour your water with. But then again we might not!!! Book Now >>>

UK SURVIVAL COURSES: Mountain Awareness (variable duration)

If you have never been outdoors for the night in your life then why not let us take you camping?

We can tailor make days of Mountain Guiding in Snowdonia or weekend routes where we will camp out using minimal equipment. You can bring a tent if you so wish but more often than not, you are better off with just a Poncho for company.

Teaching you some navigation en route, we will guide you to some of the remotest areas, far from the beaten track, whilst ensuring your safety and keeping within your personal limitations.

It’s wonderful to be outdoors but nice to have someone experienced there just to keep an eye on you when you are unsure. Book Now >>>

The Instructor for this weekend is a Physical Training Instructor and without doubt the fittest guy we have ever met.

He will keep you flying from activity to activity for the whole weekend. You may only have time to catch your breath when you are eating or down  at the pub at night - if you earn the right to be there.

An action -packed weekend and excellent value. Book Now >>>

UK SURVIVAL COURSES: Night Navigation

If you think you can navigate or walk the mountains then think again! Most people who get lost on mountains, get lost when the light fails and they find themselves cloaked in darkness and in strange surroundings.

This 24 hour course will take you from basic daylight navigation to a competent level at night. Normally run from Saturday lunchtime to Sunday afternoon which will include a classroom and practical session before setting off onto the Welsh hills just as darkness falls.

The course will take in several peaks over 3,000ft in complete darkness. You will have to navigate even in thick cloud or poor weather conditions.

By 4am you should have reached your destination where you will Bivi for the night before completing your walk the next day, ending up with a pub lunch (not included).

It is hard going so beware! If you’re not up to hills in the day then stay away. Total distance covered is about 14 heavy miles. Book Now >>>

UK SURVIVAL COURSES: Welsh 14 Peak Challenge

Here in North Wales there are 14 peaks over 3,000ft and during the summer months it’s just possible to walk them all in one day.

After walking up the highest mountain the night before, you spend a few hours sleeping on the top before setting out in the  morning, just as the sun lifts its head. From then on it’s a mad rush of summit bagging but at least you can deposit your night’s surplus kit at a mountain pass where it will be transported for you..

You only need to carry the bare minimum  with you as you will meet the transport with fresh supplies twice during your walk before meeting up for  your return journey just over the last peak,, just as the sun is setting.

Accommodation is provided on the second night at a local camp site where I guess you will be glad of a shower and a good night’s rest. Book Now >>>

UK SURVIVAL COURSES: Scottish Mountain Snow & Survival skills week

You will meet up with your instructors in Scotland on Sunday when you will have time to settle into your lodge accommodation, prepare your kit and unwind from your journey.

Training starts on Monday when you will learn how to walk in crampons, use ice axes and some safety techniques such as how to arrest slides. We will return to the lodge in the early evening for our meal and a well-earned rest.

Tuesday will see you going higher and perhaps taking in a peak and a ridge or two so you can use the skills you have learned before building a snow hole to sleep in for the night.

On Wednesday we will continue our journey and learn how to descend safely and deal with avalanches and other dangers before returning to our accommodation late in the afternoon where we will be able to dry out our kit and grab a good night’s sleep.

Thursday, weather permitting, we will find a nice gully where we can do some basic snow and ice climbing. It may sound easy but it’s going to be the hardest day of the week!  We will return to the lodge early in the evening for a hot meal and a night’s rest before Friday’s expedition.

At this stage you should have acquired some essential skills, which should see you competent in the hills in severe weather. So for the next 36 hours you will have to plan and execute an expedition to reach an objective high in the mountains between yourselves where you will put into practice all that you have learned. You will never be alone as your instructors will be close at hand for safety and observation, but you will make all the decisions. You will have to build another snow shelter and sleep out for a second night before continuing your expedition on Saturday, hopefully reaching your transport back to the lodge about lunchtime. Saturday night will be a time to unwind at the pub with a few stories before journeying back on Sunday morning.

Instructor to client ratio 1:3 . Book Now >>>
